Professor William G Kaye (Bill Kaye) has been connected with energy and combustion for over 50 years. Bill is a Fellow of the Institute of Energy and a Chartered Engineer and was a Director of the British Coal Utilisation Research Association (BCURA) and formerly Assistant Director (Combustion and Pollution Control) at British Coal’s, Coal Research Establishment (CRE), Stoke Orchard.

The Combustion Engineering Association (CEA) has been privileged to work with Bill Kaye as an Honorary Vice President and past Chairman. Bill is currently a visiting professor in Energy Technology and member of the Engineering Research Centre at the University of Glamorgan, assisting with research projects and Post-graduate Research students.

Professor Bill Kaye is keen that the CEA should continue to support the industry through education and training. Bill wanted to add his own personal support and commitment to that end by offering a special Prize for research in combustion engineering; one which the Association is very proud to present on his behalf, the Professor Bill Kaye Award for Innovation and Excellence.

The Innovation and Excellence Award is aimed specifically at students, graduates or trainees new to the industry, with project entries concerned with novel or innovative research conducted in combustion, combustion engineering and related fields (i.e. Environmental, biomass etc.). Previous winners of this award include 2012 – Ben Myatt, a student who was studying a Masters in Mechanical Engineering at Loughborough University; 2013 – James Wayman, a student in his final year at Aston University reading Mechanical Engineering; and in 2014 – Benjamin Ievins, a Product Design graduate from Brunel University, London. We are currently accepting entries for 2015.
