BG08 Ed 2 has been revised and updated with various text alterations and enhancements throughout the document to better describe recommended procedures and improve the guidance given to hire boiler operators and users.
The most significant revisions are to update the guidance provided for the selection and installation of flexible hoses, with reference to current manufacturing and testing standards and some revised flexible hose selection, handling and installation advice. Suggestions for better hose supports, hose tagging and coloured hose identification, and ensuring hoses that contained chemically treated water are thoroughly cleaned are all included.
Water treatment issues have been reviewed, and additional guidance given to help prevent water quality or water treatment problems affecting the hired boiler – it is frequently the case that the reason a hire boiler is required is because of water quality related failures. CEA BG04 (Boiler Water Treatment guidance) will be another useful document for boiler operators to read.
New photographs and diagrams have been included to show examples of installations and equipment types, and the advice given to hire companies and temporary boiler users in respect of the Medium Combustion Plant Directive (MCPD) has been updated. Lastly, some advice regarding small electrically powered boilers now available for hire has been included.
