MCP & SG update: consultation response on amendments to standard rules SR108 No1 & 4 for decarbonisation readiness

Thank you for your continued engagement with the development of the Decarbonisation Readiness (DR) requirements and for the feedback provided across our recent consultations. 

We are pleased to confirm that our consultation response on amendments to standard rules is now live on GOV.UK: Decarbonisation readiness: standard rules consultation 32 

As a reminder, Decarbonisation Readiness requirements will come into effect on 28 February 2026 and will apply to environmental permit applications submitted on or after this date for new or substantially refurbished electricity-generating combustion power plant that fall within scope. The requirements do not apply retrospectively to existing permits or applications submitted before this date. 

The updated standard rules sets SR2018 No1 and 4 will be published on Thursday 26 February: Standard rules: environmental permitting – GOV.UK  

Further communications will follow shortly providing links to the wider package of DR publications, including updated standard rules sets, application forms and our response to the Environment Agency charge proposal:decarbonisation readiness consultation ahead of go-live.
