About us

The CEA is a registered educational charity that aims to improve the understanding and development of the combustion industry. Formed in 1933 to promote the science and best practice of combustion and engineering, our heritage and reputation goes back over 80 years.

4 Guiding Principles

Education

The CEA Works with UK Universities, research establishments and students on combustion engineering wherever applicable.

We also provide:

  • Accreditation schemes (BOAS, I-GAS, SBWT)
  • Advice to both members and non-members on all aspects of the industry
  • Development on products and services by members for members
  • Research into emissions and pollution control
  • Arranging networking opportunities for research projects through members and industry contacts
  • The use of training rooms for members at NETPark in Sedgefield, close to Stockton-on-Tees

Representation

The CEA works with a number of professional representation groups to help provide the best experience for its members. By working with similar associations and other trade bodies we gain an increased knowledge of topics such as the replacement for PM5 with INDG436 and BG01, IED, LCPD and now the MCPD, RHI, climate change and the Clean Air Act.

The CEA uses the information, support and guidance of UK and European government departments about industry related matters in order to keep our members up-to-date on the changes affecting their industries. Through consultation and liaison with UK organisations such as Defra, DECC, BIS , the Carbon Trust, British Standards and the Health and Safety Executive we can stay on the cutting-edge of the industry.

Promotion

The CEA is active in event organisation and promotion including

  • Conferences and Seminars
  • Road Shows and Workshops
  • Trade exhibitions
  • Working with other parallel organisations and promoting other events where appropriate for members.

Specialist Advice

The CEA serves as a point of contact for members looking for industry information on subjects such as legislation, guidance, research, health and safety, EU Directives and many other related topics. The Association keeps a directory of member organisations and manufacturers that is freely available to all members, and has access to a substantial database of information provided by renowned field experts.

Our History

The charity was formed at a time when the UK was experiencing severe shortages of coal, our main fuel. Any waste of fuel then, meant not only higher costs, but was also a serious threat to industrial output.

The CEA was created to help push the need for efficiency and better use of fuel for combustion and our vision remains the same today.

What We Do

With a long history of promoting efficiency in the utilisation of all types of fuel, we proudly continue this ethos in the 21st Century.

Through education, representation, promotion and specialist advice, we continue our aim to promote the science of combustion engineering and to encourage best practice.

Our members include but are not limited to, major fuel and energy producers in Oil, Gas, Biomass and Coal, makers and suppliers of combustion engineering equipment and academic institutions concerned with the combustion engineering process. We have a unique membership in that ‘end user’ companies are also included.

CEA is a Registered Charity No. 253608
