In August 2025 David will celebrate 40 years at Cochran. Having started his apprenticeship in 1985, he came out of his time as a Plater fabricator before moving into the Drawing Office. Following a company restructure in 1991, an opportunity came about within the Contracts Department which has been the mainstay of his career at Cochran recognised in 2008 when he became Contracts Team Leader. He joined the Senior Management Team in 2014 heading up Sales & Contracts and latterly After Market Projects and Hire.

Field(s) of Expertise:          Industrial shell Boilers, water tube boilers and hot water boilers – operations and maintenance. CHP including ICE engines, gas turbines and biomass. Safety of operations, accident/incident investigation and boilerhouse technical risk assessment also falls into my field of expertise.

Graduating from Nottingham Trent University with a degree in mechanical engineering, Michael began his career as a design engineer at APV Baker PMC where he honed his technical skills before moving into leadership roles across various industries. His career spans sectors including textile testing instrumentation and bulk materials handling, where he earned a reputation for fostering innovation, building effective teams, and driving business growth. At Flexco, where he also served as General Manager, Michael led initiatives that not only grew the business but also set new benchmarks for industry standards.

In addition to his professional achievements, Michael has also been deeply involved in association work where, as a long-time member and former president of the Materials Handling Engineers Association (MHEA), he gained valuable experience in bringing members together, organising impactful events, and promoting technical excellence, skills that align perfectly with the CEA’s mission.

With over 35 years in the water treatment industry, Mick has forged a path specialising in water treatment for steam applications. Mick has contributed to numerous BG documents, and was lead author of the CEA BG04 Boiler Water Treatment guidance document.

As Managing Director of Deep Water Blue for over 20 years, Mick has built a reputation within the industry as a leading expert in the steam market for water treatment guidance, support and best practice. With a unique focus on supporting steam users in order to reduce total operational costs and help ensure optimal plant longevity.

Apprentice fitter and turner, 23 years Royal Navy, 20 years on Polaris Nuclear submarines, worked at Flomar & M&M Training Ltd since 1994, MD of both companies from 2010 to 2024, Semi retired.

As a product Specialist within Spirax Sarco I deal with all elements of the steam system from steam generation to all elements of steam plant. Including control valves and actuators, heat exchange and condensate management.
