I have recently spoken to a colleague Phil Lax who has been working with the “Lean Tools” across industry which you and your business might benefit from.
The reason I am sharing this with you is that before I joined the CEA I had managed one of the multimillion pound programmes in the North East as part of what was called NEPA (North East Productivity Alliance) and at the time the person heading this up was the Managing Director of Nissan, funded by the Regional Development Agency (RDA), One North East. This was one of the most successful RDA’s in the country with this project delivering real tangible benefits to industry, until the Government of the day closed all nine RDA’s and replaced it with other things such as the local LEP’s that you may be familiar with.
You may be aware that all the lean tool philosophies originated in the automotive industry to increase productivity and to iron out any manufacturing related issues, again to increase productivity. Nissan is still the most efficient car manufacturer in Europe, and they agreed to share their knowledge with industry to improve manufacturing across the UK. I have seen first-hand and been involved in sharing these tools and techniques, which has had a massive impact on companies who embrace them. From the most senior person down to the people who become the practitioners using the tools, everybody benefits and improves the bottom line of your business.

There are also others who were a part of NEPA programme who specialise in maintenance activities to improve productivity, and if any of the production lines at Nissan stopped due to a fault it would cost a fortune and the maintenance guys had minutes to get things running again, if they couldn’t the MD was aware of it within 12 minutes or less, so if that is an area of interest for you let me know.
